Our topic this Summer term

This Summer term our topic is Houses and Homes.

 Firstly we will finish learning all about castles from our Spring term topic with a visit to Carlisle Castle on 24th April.

This term in English using the Wordsmith Scheme for our work in class we will look at -  

Our Fiction topic this term is entitled - Muddles and Mishaps. We will look at the stories - The Whole truth and Penny Dreadful.

We will also be doing some poetry and our topic is entitled - A closer look. the class will listen and respond to various poems as well as drafting and editing their own and reading aloud.

Our Non-fiction topic this term is - Where in the world is the most unusual place to live?

Our reading scheme is the Oxford Reading Tree. We aim to hear most children read their own book several times a week and change all reading books every day as needed. We encourage parents / carers to hear their child read every day if possible. Staff also hear children read daily in every Read, Write, Inc session and children do guided reading sessions too.

 In Maths we use the Big Maths scheme for our daily Maths lessons. On Monday mornings we all do a timed Beat that maths test. 

 Science this term will focus on Habitats, Amphibians, Reptiles and lots of fun investigation work.

In History this term we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London.

PE is twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. Please can you make sure your child has the correct PE kit on these days. ( PE lessons will be outside weather depending so please make sure your child has suitable footwear for lessons) Monday afternoon is Swimming at Morton Pool for Year 2 this half term and Year 1 in the latter part of the term.

Mrs Barratt will be in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Miss Barrett will be in  Thursday and Friday. 

Our Teaching Assistant  is - Mrs Haughan who is in school everyday.

Mr Hall will work in our class everyday also.

We have help still on Wednesday afternoon from  Mrs Allison who enjoys hearing our class read and Mrs Vickers helps on a Tuesday afternoon. We are very grateful for all help in school.
