Ofsted 2017- The school continues to be good!                 Welcome to Cummersdale Primary School

Autumn Term 2017

This year we will be studying World War 2 during the first half term. The children will be learning about how the war changed the lives of ordinary people and what life was like for evacuees.  They will also learn about rationing, life in the cities and the countryside and what was meant by the “Home Front.”If you have any memories or photographs as to how World War 2 affected family members which your child could share with the class, I would be very grateful.

During the second half term we will be studying Light and Sound a science based topic, where children will carry out investigations and test out their ideas. This will link with Christmas activities towards the end of the Autumn Term.

Your child will be given weekly spellings on a Monday to be learnt at home. These will be tested in school on a Friday.  It is also important that your child reads regularly at home on a daily basis.  Please sign your child’s reading record to confirm they have read their book. Cummersdale cash will be awarded for regular reading at home. It is also important that your child can read and spell the high frequency words.  These can be found at the front of your child’s reading record.  They will also be given a set of times tables to learn weekly, and there will be a tables test on Friday; this will include a variety of tables to increase their accuracy and speed. Cummersdale cash will be awarded for correct spellings and tables in the weekly tests. Maths, English and work linked to the topic they are studying may also be given as homework at other times.

Your child should bring their P.E. kit which should be named into school on a Monday and leave it in school until Friday.   They may also bring a water bottle which should also be named.

If your child is in year 3 and so beginning Key Stage 2 they may finds some of the routines different to those in Key Stage 1 and  we hope to make the transition as smooth as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me should your child have any concerns regarding this matter.
