Harvest - St. James' Cummersdale 2.30pm 12/10/18                 Welcome to Cummersdale Primary School

Summer Term 2018

This term we will be exploring Fairgrounds. The children will be learning all about the history of Fairgrounds and amusement parks. The children will research Walt Disney and how the parks have changed over the decades. During DT and Science the children will learn all about the forces that are used to power fairground rides and then use this knowledge to build their own carousel, ferris wheel or chair o plane. This is will prove to be an exciting end to the term following all the hard work that will be put in during the SATs. In PE the class will continue to be coached by Neil from  Go Activ. They will also receive cricket coaching from Mr Jones and Mr Hall.

The last half term will be packed with lots of activities and will see the year 6 complete their primary education and start the transition process to secondary schools. We will be wishing them luck and saying goodbye in an awards ceremony/performance. We will be going on our annual walk although this will be different this year and will be a walk to Raughton Head School where we will join up for a game of rounders, (more information to follow).

At the end of Year Six all children must be fluent in their times tables from one through twelve.  It would greatly aid your child's development if you could take the time to practice these tables with them.

Your child has been given a username and password for Maths Whizz (www.whizz.com) which is a website that contains maths activities which have been tailored to the needs of each child. Whilst they do use this website at school we hope that they would be able to spend at least 20 minutes each week carrying out activities at home.

Your child has been given a colour-banded school reading book which they should be reading at home on a daily basis. Please sign your child’s reading record and state which pages they have read. Any additional comments about how they are doing or any problems they are experiencing will help us keep an eye on your child’s progress.

All pupils will be given a set of spellings on Friday which they will need to learn for a test on the following Friday. These spelling lists will also be put online on the Year 5/6 homepage.

Maths homework will be set on a Monday which should be handed in the following Monday.

PE lessons will be on Wednesdays and Thursday, however it would be helpful if all children have their full P.E. kit in school at all times.

The staff at Cummersdale School will make every effort to ensure that your children receive a first-class education and, working together, we can give them a great start in their academic career.

Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch.
