Sports Premium

Cummersdale School has alays had a tradition of providing high quality sports provision whether this be coaching through outside agencies or its own highly qualified staff.

The school also has prided itself on providing opportunities for children to compete and as a result, the school has often been described as 'punching above its weight' in sporting competitions.

The school was awarded £8650 for 2016-17 and approximately £16000 for 2017-18. In the last two years, sports funding has been used for the following:

  • Badminton Coaching for Y3 - 6 (Ben Davidson) (£150)
  • Hockey Coaching for Y3/4
  • Gymnastics Coaching (at Carlisle Gym) for Y1 - 6
  • Cricket Coaching for Y3 - 6 (Marc Brown/Greg Hall, Cumbria Cricket) (£500)
  • Enjoy-a-ball (Flo Bell) (£900)
  • Swimming for all year groups Y1 - 6 (£1100)
  • Squash Coaching (£200)
  • Visits to Eden Rock Climbing Centre (£500)
  • Purchase of new gymnastics equipment: mats and springboard (£1000)
  • Purchase of new nets and light box for the MUGA (£250)
  • Purchase of netball posts, netballs, footballs etc (£1000)
  • Resurfacing of the hall floor in order to do gymnastics (£8500)
  • Transport to events (£2500)
  • Fixed play equipment - Pirate Ship (£4000)
  • 'U' Dance entry and costumes (£250)

  • Consortium Athletics (2nd place out of 14 schools)
  • Caldew Netball Tournament (Joint 1st)
  • Caldew Badminton Tournament (Runners up)
  • Caldew Sports Hall Athletics (Winners 2017)
  • Austin Friars Hockey Tournament (Runners up 2017)
  • Small Schools Swimming Gala (Runners up 2018)
  • ESFA Small Schools Cumbrian Champions at Football (2017)
  • Carlisle Small Schools Champions (2018)
  • Small Schools Rounders Champions (2017 &2018)
  • Small Schools Cricket Champions (2018)
  • Orienteering: Individual winner and 5th place school in the Borderliners League
  • Over 20 children took part in the Carlisle Schools Tri-Golf Competition
  • Over 20 children from Y1 - 6 have taken part in gymnastic competitions
  • Over 20 children took part in the Delancey Chess Competition and competitions at Austin Friars/Stoneraise
  • The school hired The Sheepmount Athletics Track for its sports day (£200)
  • The whole school took part in cross country races around the school grounds and Cummersdale Holmes

The school include dance, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rounders, cricket, squash, rock climbing, swimming and athletics all as part of its PE curriculum.

The school is looking to purchase an outdoor table tennis table and renew the school tracksuits and gym kits for next year.

In recognition for its contribution to sport, the school currently holds the School Games Gold Award (2017-18)
