Reception

This term we will be concentrating on getting to know people who help us. Through this topic the children will learn about our wider community and all the people who help us. We will look at our families and jobs that key members of the family have and also other key roles of people around us. This is also a very exciting topic as we will hopefully visit the vets and fire station as well as welcoming visitors such as the police, dentists and doctors into school to talk to us about their jobs. This is a super topic with lots of excting experiences for the children. There will be meaningful activities planned to support their learning which will be a mixture of teacher led and child led, allowing the children to explore and initiate what they want to find out.

We will be following the new Early Years Framework which has an emphasis on learning through play. Activities will be planned for based on the children's needs and interests.

  • Maths - We will follow the Power Maths scheme. This is very exciting with some fun characters that will guide us through our learning and follow us through the school. Watch out for Sparks the Cat, Determined Dexter, Flexible Flo, Curious Ash and Brave Astrid! We will be promoting the deep understanding of number. We will also be using White Rose Maths to add greater depth to the childrens learning.
  • Numbots - In school there is an allocated time for your child to access Numbots, recent analysis has shown that children accessing this at home also are able to consolidate maths learning in school. It is not essential to go on it, but the children do love it. Certificates will be awarded in assembly also. Login details will be sent home, should you require any additonal information please do not hesitate to get in touch.
  • Read Write Inc - We will use the Read Write Inc (RWI) reading scheme, this has proved a successful scheme and children tend to progress well through the levels. They will start by learning their initial sounds as a class, assessments are done half termly, following the assessments, pupils will begin to move groups. They will come home with the initial sounds being taught in school, to practice at home. High frequency words and red words will also be added as and when they are exposed to them. As they move through the scheme, they will bring home a reading book that matches the level at which they are working for RWI. One book will come home a week but they will also get a number of high frequency words to learn. We ask that you practice these at home each night too.
  • PE - This term we will have PE on a Tuesday. We will have sessions delivered by Lee from Action Ants, this involves a wide variety of actvities such as fencing, obstacle courses, archery/cross bows and The staffs/pupils favourite 'messy bedrooms'. It is going to a very exciting half term with lots of new skills being learned. Children are to come to school in PE kit on a Tuesday.

Children are all allowed a water bottle in school, we ask that these are labelled, we will empty these and refill each day.

Can all children remember to bring a coat as we will be spending a proportion of time outside in our newly developed outdoor area, we will go out even if it is drizzling. Children will also need to bring in a hat and suncream if the weather is hotter. Suncream should be applied at home before coming to school we will apply more if needed later in the day. Can you please send in a bottle of suncream labelled with your childs name which will be left in school.

We will be using Showbie to record the childrens work and progress towards the Early Learning Goals. This platform allows you to see the work that is done in class as this is an app that we use throughout the school to record work on. There will be a 'Home' folders where you can upload photos to show any wow moments that take place at home, for example, riding their bike or gaining a swimming certificate.

The school Facebook page will also be kept up to date with events that take place in school.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
